How does knowledge of the way people learn related to the experience of being a teacher? 1/30/15
Understanding the way people learn can make the difference
between being a successful teacher and an unsuccessful teacher to each student
in your class. There are a wide variety of learners in your class room. In the
class I am currently working with, there was this girl who need to catch up in
her math. I quickly realized that just telling her how to multiply fractions
was not doing the trick. Soon I was showing her step by step and having her
complete the problems based on each step. She soon began to understand and
could do it on her own.
That was a one on one example, if I were to teach that one
girl all the time I would rely highly on visuals and hands on work. As a
teacher you are not just teaching on child but a whole class full of children
who each learn different ways. By focusing on one way of learning you leave
behind the rest of the class. I really enjoy the teacher I am working with she
is very down to earth and does a lot of different activities to instruct her
class. They are currently working on creating a booklet for their social
studies requirements. It’s fun, interactive and hands on, while still leaving
plenty of room for lectures, class discussions and plenty of visual
stimuli.
